Room Schema
This page defines the data model used to define a Room.
Heated Rooms
For each heated space within a building, the following is required:
Field Name | Unit | Required | Default Data Source |
---|---|---|---|
Ventilation zone | - | ✳️ | |
Room type | - | ✳️ | |
Room name | - | ✳️ | |
Max ceiling height | m | ✳️ | |
Design room temperature | °C | ✳️ | CIBSE DHDG Table 3.6 |
Minimum air change rate | 1/h | ✳️ | CIBSE DHDG Table 3.8 |
Internal air volume | m³ | ✳️ | |
Intermittent heating | % | ||
Heat gains | W |
Walls
Within every heated room, each wall surface must be defined individually based on it's wall type and adjacent space. The wall types you can select from depend on the type of adjacent space.
Field Name | Unit | Required | Default Value |
---|---|---|---|
Adjacent space | - | ✳️ | |
Adjacent room | - | ✳️ † | |
Wall type | - | ✳️ | |
Width | m | ||
Height | m | ||
Area | m² | ✳️ | Width × Height |
† only required when adjacent space is a heated room
Area Definition
There is no need to subtract the area of any windows or doors from the wall area. The system will deduct these automatically to compute the correct net surface area.
Doors
Any doors should be specified based on door type. They will share the same adjacent space as the wall they exist on.
Field Name | Unit | Required | Default Value |
---|---|---|---|
Door type | - | ✳️ | |
Width | m | ||
Height | m | ||
Area | m² | ✳️ | Width × Height |
Windows
Any windows should be specified based on window type. They will share the same adjacent space as the wall they exist on.
Field Name | Unit | Required | Default Value |
---|---|---|---|
Window type | - | ✳️ | |
Width | m | ||
Height | m | ||
Area | m² | ✳️ | Width × Height |
Floors
Each floor surface must be defined individually based on it's floor type and adjacent space. The floor types you can select from depend on the type of adjacent space.
Field Name | Unit | Required | Default Value |
---|---|---|---|
Adjacent space | - | ✳️ | |
Adjacent room | - | ✳️ † | |
Floor type | - | ✳️ | |

Ceilings
Each ceiling surface must be defined individually based on it's ceiling type and adjacent space. The ceiling types you can select from depend on the type of adjacent space.
Field Name | Unit | Required | Default Value |
---|---|---|---|
Adjacent space | - | ✳️ | |

Roof Windows
If the ceiling is an external roof, any roof windows should be specified based on window type. They will share the same adjacent space as the ceiling they exist on.
Field Name | Unit | Required | Default Value |
---|---|---|---|
Window type | - | ✳️ | |
Width | m | ||
Height | m | ||
Area | m² | ✳️ | Width × Height |
Ventilation devices
Any ventilation devices that exist in the room must be added so that the ventilation heat loss can be calculated correctly. These devices include extract fans, cooker hoods, chimneys and vents etc.
